Play park opening success at Kingswear, Devon.

Jubilee Park in Kingswear, Devon recently officially opened it’s new play park to the public.

Local residents and charities raised the funds required the Playground Committee held a special event to officially declare the park open to the public.

Much care had been taken to ensure the play equipment blended in with the natural surroundings of the park. Every piece of equipment was built of natural timber and a nautical theme was apparent in various elements.

There were several requirements including:

• the equipment was to be made of natural, unpainted wood
• The height of equipment was to be restricted
• Fencing was to include bushes and plants as well as wood fencing matching that which already existed
• The ground surface would partly comprise safety mesh which allowing the grass to grow through normally

The children and staff at the village school were very much involved and specified the equipment they want including an outdoor teaching area in the shape of a boat to seat 12 children.
