The installed structure is a bespoke octangular shape surrounding a stretched beech tree positioned close to the west perimeter fence line.

The bespoke deck is approximately 3.5 x 4.0m with the corners angled and an approximate platform height of 1.8m which varies due to the slopping ground around the tree.

The deck has machine rounded 12cmØ poles with bitumen sleeves fitted as support legs which are concreted into position.

An open house is positioned at the rear with the enclosed back to the fence so allowing the open side of the house to view directly through the V of the two main beech trunks.

A solid V shaped timber bridge connects the two platforms to each other creating a unique and fun walkway.

Caledonia Play installed the following add-ons:

A Climbing Rock Wall offering a unique way to access the tree deck structure with specially designed coloured rock climbing holds suitable for both hands and feet to use.

A Freestanding Tumble Bar allowing endless tumbling and gymnastic skills to be developed. Constructed from quality 12cm machine rounded timber, the pole is 2m long 0.6m of which is cemented into the ground. The tumble bar itself is made from stainless steel.

Climbing Ramp with Pull Rope
Scramble Net (1.2 x 2.5m)
Spiral Ladder - Made from quality stainless steel.

Caledonia Play also installed the following products:

A 25 m long Flying Fox was been stalled with a starting platform at one end and a compression spring system at the finish to ensure a safe, controlled ride to the end.

All timbers used have been pressure-treated and fitted with post saver sleeves to protect the section below ground level.

The main cross beams are metal and have a tensioning winch which ensures that the wire can be tightened as needed – the wire will inevitably stretch with use.

The carriage is made with stainless steel with nylon roller so will not rust and it is also enclosed so it will not blow or fall off the cable.

The final element that we installed is a Family Basket Swing.

The swing frame is extremely robust using larger poles than our standard swing frames in order to support the heavy basket.
The basket, which is made with an internal galvanised steel ring, stainless steel chains and herculean rope, is of commercial standard quality and conforms to European Safety Standard EN1176.

Designed to be freestanding the Family Basket Swing does not need to be concreted in or anchored down.

All round timbers are pressure treated with non-arsenic based preservative salts and impregnated with wax, and, all square sawn timbers have been graded, dressed and planed with eased corners and treated with non-arsenic based preservative salts.

Our client was looking to create a large play area and Tree House and Deck that would last for many years to come and that would accommodate many age groups and abilities.

Following a site visit and conversations a decision was made to create a large play area with the following objectives:

• A space the children can use to inspire imaginative play and encourage outdoor play.
• To be unobtrusive, fitting in with the natural setting and ethically pleasing.
• Strong and durable, requiring minimal future maintenance and can be adapted if required in the future.
• A design that will not be restrictive, so allowing many years of use for a broad age group.

The Result:

A Large Octagonal Tree House and Deck with a variety of access and exit points including Climbing Rock Wall, Spiral Ladder, Cargo Net and V Timber Bridge.

A Flying Fox System and lovely timber Family Basket Swing were also installed to complete the play area.

We pride ourselves in being able to create unique combinations that are not also attractive and with huge play value but are also safe.
