We take full payment (excluding installation costs) for all orders that are to be installed.
We take the remainder of the payment after installation has been successfully completed.
Please note: because our products are so big it is difficult to predict exactly when your order will be delivered.
The times when you can expect delivery can all vary depending upon our stock levels at the time. For standard products, delivery only, we will endeavour to despatch within 3 – 4 weeks, if you require our installation service please contact the office for approximate timing. Smaller products such as swing seats, ground anchors and similar small accessories will take less time to deliver.
Our products have been designed for all ages of children to use however we are happy and confident that our Swing Frames, with their 12cm diameter top poles and high quality fully through swing points, can carry a combined weight of 200kgs, so usable by the whole family. We believe that a good quality timber play set is an investment and should be enjoyed and used by children as they grow into teens and adulthood.
For the individual swing seats, maximum weights are advised by the manufactures and vary according to seat type. With the exception of the Basket Swing the maximum advised weight for our Garden Range Swing Seats is 70kgs (roughly 11 stones).
The following swing seats are most commonly chosen for adult use.
Although this product has been designed for children to use it is also suitable and regularly bought for adult use.
The manufacturers recommended maximum weight is about 70kg – approximately 11st
Often thought to be more comfortable than a wooden seat and the soft surface also adds more grip.
The manufacturers recommended maximum weight is about 70kg – approximately 11st
Furthermore, our Super Swing has been modified to be able to take excessive swinging by children and adults with additional educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Cracks and splits
These will occur in timber as it expands and contracts with humidity and temperature changes. They will occur particularly in the round pole timbers, but also in square cut timber and they are in new sets as well as old.
The key fact is that we use round timbers for our play equipment equipment. Most people are used to working with square timbers. Round timbers – due to the nature of their structure are more prone to splits and cracks so that when people see the cracks they become concerned as they are not used to seeing this happen.
Whilst these can appear quite large and alarming, these cracks DO NOT affect the strength, integrity and durability of the playsets. The splits and cracks happen because timber is a natural product and is a living material, and through the year the wood expands and contracts, often meaning quite large cracks appear in hot, dry weather, and then close up in the wetter, winter months.
Salt efflorescence
This can appear as superficial white to greenish spots on the surface of the timber and is as result of a mixture of exiting resin and ingredients of pressure impregnation. It should not cause concern and will not affect the safety and use of your product. It will naturally fade over time with exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
If you would like to remove the effects of salt efflorescence then just sand gently with some fine sandpaper.
Cracks and branches
Branches, grains and pith are part of the characteristics of the wood that will affect the way the timber looks. It is completely natural to have a variation in the look of the timber and that is also what gives the product charm. Email us a picture if you are concerned that it is not normal and we will be happy to advise you.
Swelling and shrinking
Volume change due to moisture absorption and drying is typical of wood and should not cause concern.
Where possible wood warping may happen we undercut the timber so that it will not change the shape of the product.
Although it is not necessary – some people may choose to unpack their new play equipment immediately when they receive it and let it dry for a couple of days before assembly.
Most of our deliveries are sent by a nationwide courier company.
They operate a 3 day service, Monday to Friday.
Because we use a third party for most of our deliveries, and because our products are so big, it is difficult to predict exactly when your order will be delivered and we cannot guarantee delivery on a specific date.
However, for an additional charge, we may be able to organise an overnight/next day delivery or a specific day delivery.
Please call the office on 01577 840570 to see if this will be possible or emailo info@caledoniaplay.com

Please note that due to government restrictions being lifted relatively recently we are still dealing with a large back log of orders and therefore it may take up to 3 or 4 weeks for online orders and 4 or 5 weeks for larger units to be delivered.
All of our garden range comes with a full set of instructions for you to assemble yourself. However, it is always suggested that 2 practical adults are available. We offer an installation service if required. We take a 30% deposit on all orders that are to be installed and we take the rest of the payment after installation has been successfully completed.

Our standard swing frames are not able to accommodate a basket swing due to its weight. Similarly, any swing extensions on the Garden Play Fort, Garden Play Castle and Multi Play Centre are also unable to take the weight of the large basket. Our Family Basket Swing frame has 10cm machine rounded timber legs supporting a 14cm diameter top swing pole and is therefore strong enough to take the full weight of the basket without any problem.
If you live locally to Caledonia Play (KY13 9XB), you can collect equipment from us.
Please call beforehand to ensure we have everything you need in stock and so that we can make sure there is somebody to meet you.

Unfortunately we do not currently have a dedicated display area open to the public at our new premises.
We do however, attend shows across the country where we display a selection of our products.
Artificial grass needs an impact absorbing surface to minimise the risk of injury should the person using the play equipment fall.
We always recommend a shock absorbent under layer which is designed for use under play equipment to be used under artificial grass.
Timber posts have a tendency to rot at the point where they enter the ground – the ground line section. This is now preventable by fitting a postsaver sleeve to the vulnerable part. This will keep the causes of ground rot out and the preservative in, ensuring that the new piece of equipment will last for many years. Metal feet can also be attached to ensure the timber is preserved and to prevent against vandalism to some degree.
We use postsaver sleeves or metal feet as standard on all the products that are sunk into the ground.
More detailed information on the benefits and uses of Postsaver sleeves is available here.
Concrete is not required for our garden range however where ground is uneven or sloping ground anchors can be used to secure the structure. These corkscrew into the grass and are bolted onto the frame allowing them to be easily removed if required. On sloping ground it can also be beneficial to sink legs of a structure into the earth to find a good level. The can be done using a garden spade.
We supply two ground anchors as standard with a standard single swing frame – one for each opposite leg diagonally.
The swing frames will gently sink into the ground and be secure. The ground anchors are supplied in case there is to be a large amount of swinging by adults or larger young people.
On occasion, the weight of the timber can create a sunken area in the grass but the ground anchor prevents the timber sinking into this hole. This can result in the ground anchor holding up the leg rather than the timber sinking further into the ground. This can be avoided by not using ground anchors and allowing the timber to sink into the ground or by using extended legs which are actually dug into the ground and sit securely in the ground. Post saver sleeved are fitted to the section of the legs that is under the ground to help prevent timber rot that may otherwise occur.
The design of our swing frames is such that the product is extremely secure and we have never had a swing frame fall over due to excessive swinging.
The ground anchors offer peace of mind to uncertain individuals who may be concerned when the product lifts off the ground slightly due to excessive swinging.
